Police Chief Calls on Public to Uphold Unity in the Face of Global Turbulence

Palembang, Indonesia — Indonesia’s Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo urged all elements of society to uphold unity and strengthen silaturahmi in facing the globally volatile situation. He said this during a Ramadan Safari at the Palembang-based Sumatera Selatan Police Regional Headquarters on Saturday. The global situation is currently not good, particularly due to the conflict in the Middle East that has heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, raising concerns for many countries about global stability. One visible impact is rising world oil prices, triggered by disruptions to energy distribution routes, including attacks in the Strait of Hormuz, the main route for world oil shipments. The government continues to take steps to maintain national stability amid the unsettled global environment. President Prabowo Subianto has convened national figures, religious leaders, and stakeholders to discuss and formulate steps to address the situation. The government is also engaging in diplomatic efforts with several countries to push for a resolution to the Middle East conflict. Therefore, all segments of the nation, from the TNI and Polri to religious leaders and the public, must unite to face the challenges. “We must be solid in facing this situation. The TNI, Polri, ulama, and all of society must stand in the same line,” he said. Sigit also reminded the public not to be easily drawn into issues that could worsen conditions or split unity. Indonesia has experience in facing crises, including during the COVID-19 pandemic, where the national economy recovered quickly and posted solid growth among G20 countries. “Of course, our hope is that in the current situation the public will not be easily swayed by issues that could worsen conditions and divide unity. This must continue to be protected,” he added.
