Jakarta (ANTARA) – Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo attended a nationwide mass corn-planting event for the first half of 2026 in Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra (Sumsel) on Saturday, as part of the commitment to achieving the President’s target of food self-sufficiency. “Undoubtedly this is a programme and a commitment by the Police to ensure we can complete what has been set as the President’s target,” Sigit said in a statement received in Jakarta. Sigit said that to realise food self-sufficiency, especially for maize, the police will continue to engage farmer groups, community elements, and all related ministries/agencies. “Praise be to God, today we are jointly carrying out a nationwide corn-planting campaign simultaneously for the first half of the year, and this activity is part of our continued programme toward planting one million hectares,” he said. Moreover, he said, the activity is also part of efforts to respond to and anticipate the dynamics of global conflicts that have recently been heating up. “Because the President has always said that we must be capable of realising food self-sufficiency, energy self-sufficiency, and of course this is part of our endeavour to create self-sufficiency or resilience in food security, particularly for corn,” he said. Sigit also emphasised that food self-sufficiency will contribute to the success of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. “Which also requires livestock feed for both broiler and layer chickens, so this must continue to be promoted,” he stated. In addition, he welcomed the joint agreement with the State-Owned Banks Association (Himbara) to assist in providing the People’s Business Credit (KUR) to the Farmers Group Association (Gapoktan). “Thus, our hope is that with the KUR provided by Himbara banks, farmers will be more encouraged. Because farmers have capital that can be used from planting to maintenance with fertilisers and pesticides, and later after harvest,” he said.
