Police Chief Assures Members Continue Thorough Investigation into Acid Attack on KontraS Activist
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has assured that his members are still working to thoroughly investigate the acid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. General Listyo stated this in response to President Prabowo Subianto’s directive.
“Yesterday, the President clearly ordered us to investigate thoroughly, and of course, the National Police is currently working on it,” said General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to reporters at the Metro Jaya Regional Police Headquarters on Wednesday (18/3/2026).
General Sigit said his side is not stopping in searching for evidence so that this case becomes clear. He emphasised that his members are still working.
“Yesterday, 86 CCTV footages were already displayed, and currently, deepening is being conducted. Clearly, we are not stopping there. However, we are also seeking sources of information, other evidence, other physical evidence, which we will then compile to truly make this case revealed, or at least become clear,” said General Sigit.
“I think at this time all our members are working, and we ask for prayers so that the results can be obtained soon,” he added.
AI-Generated Image of Suspect’s Face Circulating
Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Regional Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, previously explained about the viral photo of the alleged perpetrator on social media. Budi confirmed that the image is artificial intelligence (AI) generated and misleading.
“We also convey that there is progress in the field, including on social media, a photo from a CCTV screenshot of two people depicted,” said Budi in his statement on Sunday (15/3/2026).
“We are convinced that it is the result of AI, and this may also be suspected to mislead the investigation process,” he added.
Budi hopes the public will be wise in using social media so that the investigation of this case remains focused and not disturbed by deliberate interventions.
“We hope the public will also be wise so that this investigation remains focused and not disturbed, not intervened by things deliberately made to mislead,” he said.
Budi also asked the public to give space and time to the police to investigate the acid attack perpetrators on Andrie Yunus. He emphasised that his side will soon arrest the perpetrators.
“We also ask all community members to give space to the investigators, time, so that this investigation handling is complete and we can pursue the perpetrators who carried out the splashing of dangerous liquid on the activist,” he added.
As known, Andrie Yunus became the victim of an acid splashing allegedly carried out by two perpetrators in Central Jakarta on Thursday (12/3) night. The incident occurred while Andrie was on his way home after attending a podcast event at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI).
