Police Chief affirms commitment to strengthening synergy and supporting workers' rights
Jakarta (ANTARA) — National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has stressed the importance of strengthening synergy between the National Police, labour elements, and all cross-sectoral elements of society to confront global dynamics that could potentially impact the domestic situation.
"Our hope going forward is that our synergy and collaboration will continue to improve. We are indeed facing challenging global dynamics, which inevitably also have an impact on the domestic situation," Sigit said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday.
He made the remarks after attending the thanksgiving ceremony marking the 53rd anniversary of the Confederation of All-Indonesian Workers' Unions (KSPSI) and Indonesian Workers' Day (HARPEKINDO) at the Education and Training Centre complex in Jatiluhur, Purwakarta, West Java.
The Chairman of the KSPSI Advisory Board noted that each country continues to strive for improvement by leveraging its own resources. Sigit said global conditions would also affect Indonesia's employment sector if the nation failed to unite in addressing them.
To prevent upheaval in the employment sector, Sigit stated that President Prabowo Subianto continues to pursue various measures to mitigate such issues in Indonesia.
"The President will continue to drive his Astacita programme forward, pushing various strategic priority programmes. Among them is his drive for downstream industrialisation, and one initiative that will soon be implemented is the development of 18 strategic industries," he said.
The Police Chief also expressed hope that the success of the Astacita programme would create new employment opportunities.
Furthermore, Sigit said this synergy would provide the answer for creating a conducive investment climate.
"Therefore, there needs to be collaboration between business owners and trade union colleagues, so that on one hand they are willing to invest and expand their businesses," Sigit said.
However, Sigit also affirmed that the National Police would remain committed to supporting workers' struggles to obtain their rights.
"On the other hand, they must also pay attention to the rights of workers and labourers. This balance is what we must maintain. Workers must continue to fight for their rights, but through the proper legal corridors," he said.
Sigit further emphasised that Indonesian workers must continue to improve their skills and capabilities, saying this was essential for competing internationally.
"So that our colleagues are also ready to compete with workers abroad. And we can demonstrate that Indonesian workers are no less professional, no less resilient, and no less capable than workers overseas," Sigit said.
