Police Chief Admits Imperfections, Vows to Accept All Criticism and Input

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has admitted that the Indonesian National Police (Polri) is still not perfect and has yet to fully meet public expectations, despite the institution’s 80 years of existence. He made the remarks during his address at the 80th Bhayangkara Day ceremony, attended by President Prabowo Subianto, at the Brimob training centre in Cikeas, Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday. “As the saying goes, ‘there is no ivory that isn’t cracked’, similarly, the journey of Polri’s service is not yet entirely flawless,” he stated. He therefore pledged to accept all criticism and input from various parties regarding the police force. Sigit said this was necessary so that Polri could improve and become what the public expects. “We interpret this as a mandate to strengthen our dedication to presenting a Polri that serves the community,” he said. Nevertheless, Sigit also expressed gratitude that public trust in Polri had increased to 80.6 percent, according to a survey by Litbang Kompas. He said this result serves as motivation for all Bhayangkara personnel to enhance service quality in maintaining a conducive public security and order situation. He added that the spirit of police transformation is also an integral part of preparing for the demographic bonus momentum towards the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision, “so that our nation is ready to embrace the demographic bonus as a starting point to realise a united, sovereign, advanced, and sustainable Republic of Indonesia that we all aspire to.”
