Police Chief: 72,000 Personnel Deployed to Ensure Safe Takbiran Night Celebrations
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo directly led the monitoring of security for the National Takbiran Night of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H from Medan, North Sumatra. The Police Chief emphasised that the entire Indonesian National Police (Polri) ranks, along with all stakeholders, are on full alert to ensure that all series of the night of victory proceed safely and orderly.
General Sigit led the monitoring from the Integrated Post at Merdeka Field, Medan, North Sumatra, on Friday night (20/3/2026), alongside TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto and North Sumatra’s Forkopimda ranks. This monitoring involved direct interactions with 36 regional police commands to monitor public security and order situations at crucial points across Indonesia.
In his statement after the monitoring, General Sigit explained that Polri has mapped thousands of crowd points that serve as centres of public activity on this year’s Takbiran night.
“In this night’s security implementation, there are 72,016 personnel deployed to guard approximately 1,435 crowd points. We are monitoring around 690,735 people active outside their homes,” said General Sigit.
“I have ordered all ranks to ensure that Takbiran night activities can proceed safely, orderly, and conducive,” he added.
On this occasion, the Police Chief also reminded the public to begin preparing for their mudik homecoming journeys. The peak return flow is predicted to occur in two waves, namely on 24-25 March and 28-29 March 2026.
To anticipate congestion, General Sigit urged the public to follow the instructions of on-site officers and consider the government’s recommended Work From Home (WFH) programme on 25-27 March to reduce traffic jams.
At the end of his remarks, General Sigit expressed his highest appreciation to all TNI-Polri personnel and related agencies who remain on duty while the public gathers with their families.
“Thank you for the dedication of my colleagues who continue to stand guard with full responsibility. Thanks to this commitment, the entire series of Eid al-Fitr security can proceed safely. Happy Eid al-Fitr 1447 H to all the public, please forgive my physical and spiritual shortcomings. Let us realise a Safe Mudik, Happy Family,” concluded General Sigit.
