Police cars hamper traffic

JAKARTA (JP): Five broken down cars yesterday celebrated their
first anniversary of being abandoned by the East Jakarta police
precinct on a heavily congested street.

"We daren't say anything because these vehicles belong to
police office," said Amran, a shop owner on Jl. Raya Jatinegara
Barat.

The abandoned cars have increased traffic jams in the area,
residents claim.

Antara reported the vehicles were a Volvo sedan, a Suzuki
Jimny jeep, a patrol jeep and two prisoner vans.

As of yesterday noon they were still parked in front of the
Balimester elementary school.

The congestion on the road is also worsened by public
transportation vehicles which stop at will to take and drop
passengers. (anr)
