Police Bust Hard Drug Distribution Ring in Central Jakarta, Arrest 14

Central Jakarta Metro Police have uncovered a case of illegal hard drug distribution across various areas in Central Jakarta, arresting 14 individuals suspected of being dealers.

‘We have secured 14 suspects along with evidence of thousands of pills suspected of being distributed without a permit,’ said Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Reynold EP Hutagalung, in a statement on Monday (15/6/2026).

The cases were uncovered throughout May 2026, originating from public reports regarding drug transaction activities in several areas. Police seized 3,898 hard drug pills believed to have been circulated illegally.

The 14 suspects taken into custody bear the initials AR, M, MY, RA, K, A, SS, HF, EK, GS, AS, MU, SH, and SA. Reynold detailed that of the total cases uncovered, six occurred in the Tanah Abang area, three in Menteng, one in Sawah Besar, and two additional cases in West Jakarta.

‘Central Jakarta Metro Police are committed to eradicating the circulation of misused drugs because they pose a danger to the public. Hard drugs must be used according to regulations and under the supervision of healthcare professionals,’ he explained.

Head of the Narcotics Unit at Central Jakarta Metro Police, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Wisnu S. Kuncoro, added that the suspects are being processed for distributing hard drugs that do not meet safety standards.

They are charged under Article 435, subsidiary to Article 436 paragraphs (1) and (2) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health, in conjunction with Law Number 1 of 2026 concerning penal adjustments, which carries a minimum prison sentence of 5 years and a maximum of 12 years.

‘The suspects’ modus operandi was selling and distributing list G hard drugs without a permit. Currently, the suspects are still undergoing the investigation process, and we are continuing to develop the case,’ said Wisnu.
