Police break up brawl in East Jakarta, four teenagers arrested

A joint patrol by Battalion B Pioneer of the Metro Jaya Police Mobile Brigade and the Precision Pioneer Team of the East Jakarta Metro Resort Police broke up a teenage brawl in the Jalan Raya Bogor area, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, in the early hours of Friday (19/6).

Officers secured four teenagers strongly suspected of involvement in the brawl, along with evidence in the form of two sickle-type sharp weapons, said Metro Jaya Police Mobile Brigade Commander Senior Commissioner Henik Maryanto in a statement on Saturday.

He stressed that synergy between Mobile Brigade personnel and territorial units continues to be strengthened to anticipate various forms of public order disturbances that unsettle residents. “In addition to legal action, prevention efforts through routine patrols are also being intensively carried out as a measure to keep the security situation conducive and under control,” Henik said.

After dispersing the crowd and securing the brawling suspects in Kramat Jati, the joint patrol team conducted further sweeps at several other crime-prone locations in East Jakarta. During the sweep, officers detained a number of youths suspected of planning to conduct illegal street racing in the Cipayung area. “The youths were then taken to the local police station for further examination,” Henik revealed.

In relation to the prevalence of night-time public order disturbances, the police appealed to the public to play an active role in maintaining security in their respective neighbourhoods. Residents are also urged to immediately report any potential disturbances or criminal activity around them through the official Indonesian National Police call centre service 110 so that field officers can promptly follow up.
