Police Break Through 3 Isolated Areas Affected by NTT Earthquake, Focus on Evacuating Victims

The East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police (Polda NTT) have succeeded in opening access to three areas on Flores Island that were previously isolated due to earthquakes and landslides.

“Three areas that were previously isolated have now had their access reopened, because they had been cut off by landslides,” said NTT Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Darmoko in Kupang on Monday, 17 August 2026.

The three locations that had been isolated and have now been reopened are North Lamba Leda District in East Manggarai Regency. At that location, personnel found residents in urgent need of assistance. In addition to distributing food, drinking water and medicines, personnel also evacuated a pregnant woman who was experiencing bleeding due to premature labour.

“Alhamdulillah, she was able to be evacuated and taken to hospital. Alhamdulillah, she was saved,” said the police chief.

The second location is the Reo area in Manggarai Regency, which had also been cut off. The Manggarai police chief and his personnel succeeded in opening access to the location, distributing aid and setting up emergency posts and tents for affected residents.

The third location is Dimpong Village in North Rahong District, Manggarai Regency. Information about the condition of isolated residents was received via social media. Polda NTT then responded quickly by deploying Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel to the location.

“Alhamdulillah, they were able to evacuate the residents who were isolated there and had not yet received aid. Alhamdulillah, they have now been evacuated by Brimob,” said the police chief.

According to the police chief, the success in reaching the three areas demonstrates the importance of personnel responding quickly to public reports.

He said that the police are still continuing to distribute aid to a number of residents who have not yet received assistance.

The police chief urged the public to report any other earthquake victims who have not yet received aid so that they can be registered and receive assistance promptly.
