Police Boost Patrols After Brazilian Content Creator's Theft in Sumba

Police have intensified routine patrols at several tourist spots after Brazilian content creator Ferri Cangussu Nicolas (28) was robbed at Marosi Beach in Patiala Bawa Village, Lamboya Subdistrict, West Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Authorities will also request hotel staff in West Sumba to remind guests to safeguard their belongings. ‘We are also engaging with the community to maintain public order and ensure hotel guests feel comfortable in West Sumba,’ said West Sumba Regency Police Chief AKBP Yohanis Nisa Pewali to detikBali on Sunday (31 May 2026). Yohanis confirmed police are still investigating the theft involving the Brazilian content creator. So far, the perpetrator has not been identified, despite ongoing inquiries into local residents. ‘All items from the victim’s bag have been recovered,’ he added. Previously, Ferri Cangussu Nicolas was robbed at Marosi Beach in West Sumba on Thursday (28 May). His gadgets, camera equipment, and cash were stolen while he was photographing the beach’s beauty. ‘The items were stolen while he was capturing the scenic view,’ said West Sumba’s Tourism and Creative Economy Office Head Semuel Dato Mesa on Saturday (30 May). Semuel explained Ferri was walking along Marosi Beach photographing children bathing horses when he placed his bag containing lenses, a drone, passport, and US$300 in cash. As he focused on filming, a child took the bag and ran off. Other children present shouted ‘thief’ upon witnessing the act, after which the suspect fled and dumped Ferri’s belongings into bushes.
