Police Block 15 Entry Routes to Yogyakarta City on Takbiran Night
Yogyakarta City Police are blocking 15 entry routes into Yogyakarta City to restrict groups of people from outside the city who intend to carry out takbir processions tonight. This is being done to avoid adding to the density in Yogyakarta City.
The Head of Operations for Yogyakarta City Police, Commissioner Sumanto, stated that the blockades are to counter the convoys typically conducted on Takbiran night from outside entering Yogyakarta City. At least 700 personnel are on standby tonight from 8:00 PM WIB until 3:00 AM.
“For this Takbiran night on Thursday the 19th, we have 15 blockades, 15 blockades at points outside Yogyakarta City that directly connect to Yogyakarta City, starting from Sleman, Bantul, and also Kulon Progo,” he explained when met at Yogyakarta City Police Headquarters on Thursday (19/3/2026).
“These blockades are for groups conducting takbir processions from outside Yogyakarta City, especially to prevent them from entering Gumaton, particularly Malioboro,” Sumanto added.
The 15 points to be blocked include Jalan Magelang, Jalan Palagan, Jalan Kaliurang, Jalan Affandi, Jalan Wonocatur, Jalan Wonosari, Jalan Imogiri Timur, Jalan Ki Ageng Pamenahan, Jalan Parangtritis, Jalan Imogiri Barat, Jalan Tamantirto, Jalan Patangpuluhan, Jalan Wates, and Jalan Godean.
“If we encounter takbir procession groups, meaning those without prior notification to the police from here, perhaps from Bantul or Sleman cities, we will humanely return them to their respective areas,” he said.
“If they still insist, we will carry out enforcement and coercion to go home,” Sumanto continued.
On the other hand, Sumanto explained that for tonight’s Takbiran agenda, at least six locations have applied for permission to his side. One of them is Masjid Gedhe Kauman, which will take a route around Jalan Pangurakan to Jalan Ahmad Dahlan.
The second location is in Notoprajan, taking a route to Ngabean and back to Notoprajan. The third is at the Ngabean parking area with a route along Jalan Ahmad Dahlan.
“There is also one in Kotagede, then Mergangsan, Keraton, and Gondokusuman, so we have prepared personnel,” Sumanto stated.
“We will implement traffic engineering if there is density on Ahmad Dahlan; we might divert to the north or south, and also in Gondomanan we will carry out diversions,” he detailed.
If there is a difference in the determination of 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah, Sumanto assured that the same engineering will still be carried out tomorrow night.
“We will still carry out security, and we have already plotted anticipations for tonight and also for tomorrow night; we have prepared personnel,” he concluded.
