Police Ban Members from Live Streaming While on Duty, Reminding Them of Code of Ethics
Jakarta - Polri has reminded all its members to uphold the professional code of ethics amid the prohibition on conducting live streams on social media while on duty. The Head of Polri’s Public Relations Division, Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, stated that every member is obliged to comply with the rules, including Polri Regulation No. 7 of 2022 and Government Regulation No. 2 of 2003. “Every Polri member is obliged to uphold and implement Polri Regulation No. 7 of 2022 on the professional code of ethics and the Polri code of ethics commission, as well as Government Regulation No. 2 of 2003 on the disciplinary regulations for Polri members,” Isir explained in his statement on Monday (4/5/2026). He noted that the reinforcement of the live streaming ban while on duty is part of efforts to build awareness among members to use social media wisely. Nevertheless, Polri continues to encourage the positive utilisation of social media. Isir mentioned that digital platforms can be used to support institutional performance, particularly in public relations functions. “Furthermore, to build and increase collective awareness of the positive aspects of social media, thereby enhancing Polri’s productivity/performance through its units/functions by utilising social media platforms for public relations purposes under the coordination of the Polri Public Relations function,” he said. Previously, this live streaming ban emerged after it was posted on the Instagram account @sahabatpropam. “This ban applies to all social media platforms without exception; every member is expected to remain focused on carrying out duties, responsibilities, and service to the public,” the Instagram account @sahabatpropam wrote.
