Police ban Idul Fitri posts

SEMARANG: Central Java Police have banned all security task forces of political parties from establishing command posts to help Idul Fitri travelers, fearing that they could trigger conflicts among party cadres.

"Yes, we have banned the posts. If political parties want to help the people, contact the nearest police station," Central Java Police Chief Insp. Gen. Didi Widayadi said on Friday.

Didi claimed that police had to ban the establishment of party posts, which in the past were often used by political parties to attract people's support.

Last month, supporters of Golkar Party and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) were involved in a clash in Batang regency, Central Java.

"Political parties can just join police posts if they want to help Idul Fitri travelers," Didi said. --JP
