Police Await Puslabfor Results on Suspected Grenade in Bekasi
BEKASI, KOMPAS.com – Police are awaiting the results from the Forensic Laboratory Center (Puslabfor) of the National Police Headquarters regarding a suspected grenade discovered in Duren Jaya Permai Housing Estate, East Bekasi, Bekasi City.
“We cannot confirm it is a grenade yet and are awaiting the Puslabfor results,” said AKP Suparyono, the Public Relations Head of the Bekasi City Metropolitan Police District, when contacted by Kompas.com on Sunday (31 May 2026).
Suparyono confirmed only one suspicious item was found in the incident.
He stated the discovery was first reported to local RT and RW officials before being forwarded to East Bekasi Police Station.
“That item is suspected to resemble a grenade,” said Suparyono.
Previously, the suspected grenade was discovered by a cleaner while collecting trash from a bin in the complex around 3:30pm WIB.
“Yes, that was this afternoon; it’s suspected to be a pineapple grenade, shaped like a pineapple. It was the cleaner who found it,” Suparyono said on Saturday (30 May 2026).
Upon discovering the suspicious item, the cleaner immediately reported it to the local management.
“He reported it to RT and RW, then the local police station contacted the Jihandak (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) team of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, and there was only one item,” Suparyono said.
He added that the item was handled in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP) to mitigate potential risks.
Police are currently awaiting forensic laboratory results to confirm the nature and characteristics of the found item.
