Police Await Case File in Central Jakarta Acid Attack Incident
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police are still awaiting the P21 case file, declared complete by the public prosecutor, regarding the acid splashing incident that occurred in Central Jakarta (Jakpus).
“The perpetrators remain cooperative in fulfilling their reporting obligations, and the case file is currently with the Public Prosecutor’s Office (JPU); we are just waiting for the P21,” said the Head of the Women’s and Children’s Protection Unit and Anti-Trafficking in Persons Unit (PPA-PPO) of the Central Jakarta Metro Police Resort, Kompol Rita Oktavia Shinta, in her statement in Jakarta on Monday.
She explained that the case began when a group named Bocipan and the Wardul group arranged a meeting via Instagram to engage in a sarung war.
On Thursday (26/2), after performing Tarawih prayers, the Bocipan group, consisting of approximately 15 people, gathered at the Timbul field, then the perpetrator’s child with initials AFZ poured HCL chemical liquid into a ladle and rode a motorbike tandem with another perpetrator’s child with initials RS.
“Around 21:30 WIB, the Bocipan group met the Wardul group on Jalan Johar Baru, Central Jakarta, and a brawl ensued,” said Rita.
During the brawl, the two perpetrator children chased the victim child with initials MR (16) and splashed the chemical liquid using the ladle towards the victim’s face.
Subsequently, on 15 March 2026, the detention of the two perpetrator children was suspended due to a request for suspension from the parents, guaranteeing they would not hinder the investigation process, as they are still minors and require parental guidance, thus they are subject to daily reporting obligations during the legal process.
“On 17 March 2026, the Visum Et Repertum results from Tarakan Hospital, where the victim was treated, were issued, and left eye disability and burns due to the splashing and splashing of chemical liquid were found, disrupting work,” said Rita.
Previously, a video circulated on Instagram via the @jakpus.terkini account showing the victim’s mother with initials MR expressing her complaints about the investigation into the case affecting her child, which seemed slow.
“As a result of the splashing, the victim suffered serious burns to the face, neck, and left eye. Despite undergoing four surgeries, the victim’s condition remains weak and bedridden to this day,” the account stated.
The account also mentioned that the victim’s mother was increasingly devastated after learning that the two suspected perpetrators, who had previously been detained by the Central Jakarta Metro Police Resort, had their detention suspended.
