Police Await Autopsy Results on Decomposed Body Found in Sanghyang Forest

Police are working to uncover the identity of a body found decomposing in the Sanghyang Forest, Jatiluwih Village, Penebel District, Tabanan, on Sunday (28/06/2026). The Tabanan Regional Police (Polres Tabanan) are conducting identity investigations while awaiting autopsy results.

“For now, the autopsy results have not yet been released,” said the Head of Criminal Investigation (Satreskrim) of Tabanan Police, AKP Made Teddy Satria Permana, when confirmed on Monday (29/06/2026).

Police received information from residents who had previously spotted a man wearing clothing similar to that found on the deceased. This sighting occurred during the Umanis Galungan period on Thursday (18/06/2026).

There is speculation that the deceased may have been a climber of Mount Sanghyang. However, police are still investigating the starting point of the individual’s climb and how they reached the location, including the type of vehicle used to arrive in Jatiluwih Village.

In addition to field investigations, the police have coordinated with all owners of inns and homestays around Jatiluwih Village. However, no accommodation provider has reported a missing guest or person staying at their establishment.

Teddy revealed that the police are facing several obstacles in identifying the body. Fingerprint scanning methods have reached a dead end due to the advanced state of decomposition of the corpse.

“We have also attempted to verify the identity through fingerprints, but it has yielded no results,” said Teddy.

According to Teddy, the failure of fingerprint identification was caused by the destruction of the fingertips due to decomposition. Nevertheless, there is an initial suspicion that the deceased may be a foreign national, although the police are reluctant to provide a final conclusion. “It is still speculation,” he emphasised.

It was previously reported that residents of Banjar Dinas Gunung Sari Umakayu, Jatiluwih Village, were shocked by the discovery of an unidentified body in the Sanghyang Forest on Sunday (28/06/2026) morning. The body was found in a decomposed state, with only the skull remaining of the head area.
