Police Await Autopsy Results on Decomposed Body Found in Sanghyang Forest

Police are attempting to identify a decomposed body found in the Sanghyang Forest, Jatiluwih Village, Penebel District, Tabanan, on Sunday (28/6/2026). Tabanan Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Made Teddy Satria Permana stated that they are still awaiting the autopsy results. “For now, the autopsy results are not yet available,” he said during confirmation on Monday (29/6/2026). Police received information that a resident had seen a man matching the description of the victim’s clothing on Umanis Galungan, Thursday (18/6/2026). There is a suspicion that the victim was a hiker on Mount Sanghyang. However, police are still investigating the starting point of the hike and how the individual reached the location, including the vehicle used to arrive at Jatiluwih Village. In addition to field investigations, police have coordinated with all homestay and accommodation owners around Jatiluwih Village. So far, no accommodation has reported a missing guest. Teddy revealed that police face several obstacles in identifying the body. Attempts to trace the identity through fingerprint scanning were unsuccessful due to the body’s decomposed state. “We tried to check the identity via fingerprints, but it yielded no results,” Teddy said. According to Teddy, the failure of fingerprint identification was because the fingertips were already destroyed. There is a preliminary suspicion that the victim is a foreign national, but police are reluctant to draw a final conclusion. “It is still speculation,” he stressed. The discovery of the unidentified body in the Sanghyang Forest on Sunday morning shocked residents of Banjar Dinas Gunung Sari Umakayu, Jatiluwih Village. The body was already decomposed, with the head reduced to a skull.
