Police: Attempted Kidnapping of Elderly Man in Penjaringan Motivated by Disapproved Romance
The Penjaringan Metropolitan Police Sector has stated that the suspect’s motive for the attempted kidnapping and assault of an elderly man in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, was allegedly due to the perpetrator’s romantic relationship with the victim’s child not being approved. “The motive of suspect CW, who involved FAP in committing the criminal act of attempted kidnapping and assault against the elderly man with the initials GH (70), is suspected to be a relationship that was not approved,” said the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Penjaringan Metropolitan Police Sector, AKP Sampson Sosa Hutapea, in Jakarta on Monday. He explained that the kidnapping motive was allegedly due to the victim’s family rejecting the romantic relationship of suspect CW, who is already married and has a child. CW, who already has a wife and child, was known to still be in a relationship with the victim’s child, identified by the initials CKH. “So this perpetrator wanted to meet the victim GH to discuss his relationship with the victim’s child, but was rejected,” he said. According to the perpetrator’s statement, this rejection led CW to enlist the other perpetrator, FAP, to carry out the kidnapping and assault. The two perpetrators went to the victim’s residence with CW acting as the driver and FAP playing the role of the passenger sitting in the back, or the executor of the kidnapping. Upon arriving at the location, the two perpetrators conducted surveillance and waited for the victim to leave the house for a walking exercise. After spotting the victim, perpetrator FAP got out of the car and forcibly pulled the victim, embracing him to get him into the car. The victim GH resisted, leading to a tug-of-war between the victim and the perpetrator, until the victim eventually managed to escape. Seeing the victim flee, the two suspects left the scene, and suspect CW allegedly attempted to conceal the vehicle’s identity by changing the license plate using a screwdriver that had been prepared before leaving the location. Previously, the Penjaringan Metropolitan Police Sector in North Jakarta arrested two men with the initials CW (31) and FAP (26) who were suspected of attempting to kidnap and assault the elderly man GH (70) on Jalan Camar Permai 4, RT 02/06, Kapuk Muara Urban Village, Penjaringan District, North Jakarta. The two perpetrators were successfully arrested after police officers conducted an investigation for over a month. Officers managed to arrest CW, who was the mastermind behind the attempted kidnapping and assault of the elderly man. From the examination, suspect CW admitted to his actions of attempting the kidnapping and assault together with FAP. Subsequently, the police arrested suspect FAP at a fitness centre located in the Gold Coast apartment complex, PIK. “The two suspects, CW and FAP, were then taken to the Penjaringan Metropolitan Police Sector for further examination,” he said. Both perpetrators are charged under Article 17 and Article 18 in conjunction with Article 450 and/or Article 471 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code for the criminal acts of attempted kidnapping and assault. “Both perpetrators face a maximum prison sentence of 12 years for these criminal acts,” he said.
