Police Attacked While Rescuing Woman Held Captive by Ex-Boyfriend in Kendari
Police officers were allegedly attacked and pelted with stones by several individuals in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, during an attempt to rescue a woman, identified by the initials NA (19), who was reportedly being held captive by her former boyfriend.
The incident was recorded on camera and has since gone viral on social media. The case began when police received a report from the victim’s family on Sunday (28/6) stating that their daughter had allegedly been kidnapped.
“From our investigations, officers received information that the victim was being held captive by her boyfriend,” said the Kendari City Police Chief, Kombes Pol Edwin L. Sengka, on Tuesday (30/6).
However, Edwin stated that at the moment the victim was being evacuated, officers suddenly came under a barrage of stones thrown by a group of people at the scene.
“Officers were pelted with stones; subsequently, several personnel sustained bruises and the patrol vehicle also sustained damage,” he explained.
He confirmed that the victim of the confinement was successfully rescued despite the resistance faced by the police from local residents.
“The victim was successfully evacuated by officers following the report,” said Edwin.
Edwin noted that the perpetrator is currently being pursued after taking advantage of the chaos caused by the crowd attacking the officers during the evacuation.
“We urge the perpetrator to surrender immediately. We guarantee that the perpetrator will be arrested,” he concluded.
