Police Assess Damage to Public Facilities Following Riots After DPR Protest

A number of public facilities were damaged as a result of the riots that occurred after a protest in front of the DPR/MPR RI building yesterday. The police are still calculating the damage to these public facilities.

“We are currently calculating the material and immaterial losses suffered by the public as well as public facilities that should still be usable and beneficial for the community, but due to the riots, the function of these public facilities has been disrupted,” said Dirkrimum Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Iman Imanuddin during a press conference at Polda Metro Jaya, Jakarta, Friday (28/8/2026).

Iman explained that there was one location where the riots occurred. He said the unrest only took place in the Pejompongan and Bendungan Hilir areas.

“Furthermore, the area where the riots occurred last night was at one point in the vicinity of Jalan Pejompongan, Bendungan Hilir,” he explained.

Previously, the police revealed the challenges in securing the riots following the protest in front of the DPR/MPR RI building on 27 August. Consideration for public safety was a key factor in the security operation.

“As was asked earlier, the riots that occurred lasted until dawn, from the early hours until dawn, so what were the challenges?” said Kabid Humas Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Budi Hermanto in Jakarta.

“In managing the handling of public order and security, we certainly consider many things, and we prioritise the safety of the public, the safety of lives and property, as well as respect for human rights,” he added.

He said his party prioritised humane appeals, even towards the rioters. Legal action was also carried out while upholding human rights.

“We prioritise appeals and humanism towards anyone, including the rioters. And firm legal action is certainly still carried out while observing and upholding human rights,” he stated.

Therefore, Budi said, space for warnings was given to the masses. Legal action was taken against perpetrators who violated the law and carried out destruction.

“Therefore, this provides us with room to give warnings first, then we appeal to them to jointly maintain the situation and stability of public order and security. However, when they carry out destruction, we certainly do not allow it and we take legal action,” he explained.
