Police arrested with drugs processed

JAKARTA (JP): Seven city police sergeants who were allegedly caught red-handed smoking marijuana in a police dormitory in West Jakarta, have been locked up at Jakarta Police prisons, pending further investigation of their cases, an official said on Monday.

City police spokesman said the cases were being seriously handled by police detectives to help complete the dossiers.

The seven officers from the On-Alert Unit of the Jakarta Police were detained shortly after they were apprehended in an impromptu midnight raid last Wednesday, directly led by Jakarta Police chief Maj. Gen. Noegroho Djajoesman on flat E of the Petamburan Police Dormitory on Jl. K.S. Tubun in West Jakarta.

Police have not yet revealed the identities of the seven but a source disclosed that the suspects were all second sergeants and identified as Mawarlis, Nanang S., Dwi Unggoro, Wilianto, Budi Setyana, Agus Syaiful, and Suherman.

"The process to determine the sanctions are ongoing and so far they have been detained for further questioning," Lubis said.

From the seven, officers confiscated a small pack of marijuana.

Earlier after the arrest, West Jakarta Police chief Lt. Col. Adjie Rustam Ramja said the seven officers were caught red-handed inhaling shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine). (emf)
