Police Arrest Youth for Alleged Sexual Violence Against Student in Batam
The Bengkong Sector Police (Polsek) have uncovered a case of alleged sexual violence against a child in the Bengkong District, Batam City. A 20-year-old man with the initials MSR has been detained for further legal proceedings. The case emerged after the victim’s family received information from the victim’s homeroom teacher on Friday, 19 June 2026. The teacher reported receiving a video from the suspect that allegedly showed sexual intercourse between the suspect and the victim, a 17-year-old high school student identified as JMS. “After learning of this information, the victim’s family reported the incident to the police for follow-up action,” said Bengkong Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head, First Inspector Apriadi, on Tuesday (23/6). Based on the investigation, the alleged sexual violence occurred at the Coastarina shopping complex in Sadai Village, Bengkong District, Batam City, on Saturday, 18 April 2026, at around 4:00 PM local time. Following the report, the Bengkong Police Criminal Investigation Operations Unit conducted an investigation and apprehended the suspect on Saturday, 20 June 2026, at around 10:30 AM local time. The suspect was taken to the Bengkong Police headquarters for further examination. During the case disclosure, police also secured several pieces of evidence believed to be related to the crime, including clothing and personal items belonging to the victim. For his actions, MSR is charged under Article 473 paragraph (2) letter b of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1 of 2026 concerning Criminal Adjustments, or Article 415 letter b of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of nine years. The Bengkong Police affirmed their commitment to protecting children and taking firm action against any criminal offences involving minors. The public is also urged to increase supervision of children and to immediately report any suspected criminal acts involving minors to the police. The police have assured that the legal process for this case will be conducted in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, while prioritising the protection of the victim’s rights as a child.
