Police have arrested two motorcycle theft suspects working as tailors in the Jalan Buncit Raya area of Pancoran, South Jakarta. Pancoran Police Station Chief Kompol Mansur stated during a press conference on Tuesday that two individuals identified as AD and M were apprehended, while a third suspect remains at large and is now a fugitive. He explained that the suspects were arrested on Monday (25 May) after patrol teams received a report from residents about suspicious activity involving three individuals in front of SMA Fatahillah school. “Residents noticed their suspicious behaviour and reported it to the patrol team, which immediately responded to the scene,” Mansur said. During a search, police found evidence including a sharp weapon, a T-shaped lock pick, and a motorcycle. Mansur stated the weapon was used to intimidate residents while attempting to flee. “They are tailors, some working as mobile tailors and others with fixed workshops,” Mansur added. The two suspects admitted it was their first time committing motorcycle theft after being recruited by the main suspect, who is still at large. Police believe the theft was motivated by economic hardship and household needs. They have been charged under Article 477 in conjunction with Article 307(1) of the Indonesian Criminal Code, facing up to seven years in prison and a fine of Rp500 million.
