Police Arrest Two Suspects in Attempted Kidnapping of Elderly Man in PIK

Police have arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the attempted kidnapping of a 70-year-old man, identified by the initials GH, in the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area of Penjaringan, North Jakarta. Kapolsek Penjaringan AKBP Agta Bhuwana Putra confirmed the arrests on Monday (15/6), stating the pair were taken into custody the previous Friday. However, he declined to disclose the suspects’ identities or the details of their arrest, noting that investigators from the Penjaringan Criminal Investigation Unit are still conducting intensive examinations.

The attempted abduction occurred in May at around 6:55 a.m. WIB while the victim was on his morning walk. According to AKP Sampson Sosa Hutapea, head of the Penjaringan Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit, the incident was captured by CCTV cameras in the vicinity. Initial investigations and footage revealed that the suspects followed the victim in a car before one of them got out and approached him. The perpetrator tried to force the victim into the vehicle, but the elderly man resisted, leading to a scuffle that caused both to fall onto the road. The victim’s shouts for help apparently panicked the assailant, who then fled the scene without the victim. Police stated the victim, a private sector employee, did not know the perpetrator and had no prior disputes with anyone.
