Police arrest two suspects in attempted kidnapping of elderly man in North Jakarta

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police have arrested two suspects in connection with an alleged attempted kidnapping and assault of an elderly man in the Kapuk Muara area, Penjaringan, North Jakarta.

“That is correct. The Penjaringan Metropolitan Police have detained two suspects in the case of suspected attempted kidnapping and/or assault of an elderly man with the initials GH (70),” said Polda Metro Jaya Public Relations Head, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.

Budi explained that the two suspects, identified by the initials CW (31) and FAP (26), are currently being held in the detention facility of the Penjaringan Metropolitan Police to undergo legal proceedings.

“Currently, both have been detained and are undergoing further investigation,” he said.

Based on the preliminary investigation conducted by the police, the desperate actions of the two suspects are strongly suspected to have been triggered by a personal matter.

In addition to apprehending the suspects, police officers moved swiftly to secure a number of pieces of evidence at the scene believed to be linked to the criminal act.

“The evidence confiscated by officers includes one white Toyota Fortuner believed to have been used during the crime, closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from around the location, mobile phones, a screwdriver, and the clothing worn by the suspects when carrying out their actions,” Budi clarified.

To account for their actions, CW and FAP now face severe penalties. Investigators will charge the two suspects with multiple articles.

“For their actions, the suspects are charged under Article 450 and/or Article 471 of the Criminal Code concerning kidnapping and/or assault, with a maximum prison sentence of 12 years,” he said.
