The Palembang Police in South Sumatra have arrested two suspects in a violent theft case involving an officer from the Medical and Health Division of the South Sumatra Regional Police in Ilir Barat I District.

Palembang Police Chief Senior Commissioner Sonny Mahar Budi Adityawan said on Tuesday that the two suspects, identified by the initials FZ and FI, have been taken into custody to face legal proceedings.

The incident occurred on Jalan Inspektur Marzuki, Siring Agung Sub-district, Ilir Barat I District, Palembang, on Friday (7/8) at around 3:00 a.m. local time.

The victim, identified by the initials JE and holding the rank of Aiptu, was transporting two passengers by motorcycle at the time of the incident.

According to police, a dispute arose upon arrival at the destination regarding payment for the transport service.

Police suspect that one of the perpetrators then struck the victim on the head with a wooden block and wounded the victim’s abdomen using a sharp weapon.

The perpetrators subsequently fled with the victim’s motorcycle.

After receiving the report, the Palembang Police Criminal Investigation Unit processed the crime scene, reviewed CCTV footage, and interviewed several witnesses.

Police then arrested FZ in the Jalan Inspektur Marzuki area of Palembang on Monday (10/8) morning.

Based on further investigation, officers arrested FI at a lodging in the Alang-Alang Lebar area on Monday afternoon.

“This disclosure demonstrates the seriousness of our ranks in eradicating street crime and providing legal certainty to victims. We will not give any room for street criminals in Palembang,” Sonny said.
