Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Resmob Sub-Directorate team of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police has again arrested two perpetrators of aggravated theft using the punctured-tyre and glass-smashing method, who made off with cash worth Rp1.2 billion belonging to a resident in Kalideres, West Jakarta.

Head of the Resmob Sub-Directorate at Polda Metro Jaya, AKBP Resa Fiardi Marasabessy, when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday, said the two suspects were arrested in the Bandar Raya area, Muara Bangka Hulu, Bengkulu City, on Friday (24/7) at around 02:00 Western Indonesia Time.

“The two suspects we secured are M alias Men (35), who acted as the executor breaking the car window, and M alias Marwan (51), who acted as the motorcycle rider-jockey,” said Resa.

Resa explained that the crime began on Tuesday (9/6) at around 11:30 Western Indonesia Time. The victim, with the initials FB, had just withdrawn cash amounting to Rp1.2 billion from a bank.

On the way back to his office, the victim noticed that one of his car’s tyres had a puncture, so he stopped his vehicle at a workshop on Jalan Taman Surya III, Kalideres, West Jakarta.

“While the victim was changing the tyre at the workshop, the perpetrators immediately smashed the right rear-side window of the victim’s car and grabbed a bag containing Rp1.2 billion in cash,” said Resa.

After receiving the victim’s report, Operational Team Unit 1 and Special Team II of the Resmob Sub-Directorate at Polda Metro Jaya analysed CCTV footage and carried out IT tracing until they identified the profiles and whereabouts of the perpetrators in Bengkulu.

From the suspects, investigators secured evidence in the form of CCTV footage from the crime scene and three mobile phones belonging to the two perpetrators.

“Our investigators are continuing to develop the case to pursue two other perpetrators who remain on the Wanted Persons List (DPO) with the initials D and H,” he said.

For their actions, the suspects are charged under Article 477 of the Criminal Code, Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning Aggravated Theft.

Previously, the Resmob Sub-Directorate team of the General Criminal Investigation Directorate at Polda Metro Jaya arrested one perpetrator of theft using the punctured-tyre and glass-smashing method who made off with Rp1.2 billion in cash in the Kalideres area of West Jakarta.

“The suspect with the initials SA (53) was secured at his residence in the Cileungsi area, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Wednesday (17/6) in the early hours at around 00:30 Western Indonesia Time,” said the Head of the Resmob Sub-Directorate of the Criminal Investigation Directorate at Polda Metro Jaya, AKBP Resa Fiardi Marasabessy, in his statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Resa explained that the theft took place on Tuesday (9/6) at around 11:30 Western Indonesia Time on Jalan Taman Surya III, Kalideres, West Jakarta.
