Police arrest two Lampung motorcycle thieves in Central Jakarta
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police arrested two Lampung-based motorcycle thieves while they were operating in the Johar Baru Police Sector area, and both had previously conducted the same actions. ‘Both suspects consistently target motorbikes with automatic transmissions,’ said Johar Baru Police Sector Chief, Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Kompol Saiful Anwardi, on Wednesday. He identified the two suspects detained as AW (26) and IM (26), both from Lampung. The suspects allegedly stole motorcycles in the Galur area, Johar Baru, on Monday (2/3), and their actions were witnessed by residents. Saiful said that the two suspects are specialists in stealing two-wheeled vehicles of the automatic type who typically operate in Central and East Jakarta. He explained that in addition to the location, authorities also secured one of the stolen motorcycles parked at a kuliner in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. ‘The vehicle has now been secured at the Johar Baru Police Station,’ he said. He explained that all two-wheeled vehicles stolen were sold in Lampung with prices ranging from Rp3–5 million. From the suspects, police recovered one T-shaped key, three modified lock picks, one lock-opening magnet, and one small knife with its sheath. ‘Both of them are charged under Article 477 of the Indonesian Criminal Code concerning the offense of aggravated theft of a two-wheeled vehicle,’ he said.
