Police arrest three suspects in fatal Grogol mob attack
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Grogol Petamburan Police, together with the West Jakarta Metro Police Resmob Team, has arrested three of eight suspects involved in a mob attack that led to the death of a man at the Weston Ultimate night-time entertainment and billiard venue in Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta. “We have just managed to secure the perpetrators of the mob attack that resulted in the victim’s death, which occurred at Weston Grogol on 10 May,” said Grogol Petamburan Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Alexander Tengbunan to reporters in Jakarta on Thursday. The three detained suspects have the initials NA, AE, and MLS. “Two of them are still underage, while the other is an adult,” Alex said. The suspects were arrested at separate locations, in the West Jakarta area and in Rangkasbitung, Banten. One of the three suspects was handed over directly to the police by their family. “Evidence we have secured includes CCTV footage from the scene, as well as the clothing worn by the suspects during the incident,” he said. For their actions, police have charged the three suspects under Article 262 paragraph 4 of the Criminal Code on mob attacks resulting in death. The victim was reportedly taken to hospital but could not be saved. The victim’s sister, Mita, said her brother was playing billiards with his girlfriend at the time. The victim’s girlfriend then became involved in an argument with another woman, and the victim tried to intervene. However, while trying to separate them, the victim was attacked by a group of men at the scene. “He was trying to defend or separate them, then suddenly he was beaten and attacked by more than 15 people,” Mita said when contacted on Friday. As a result, the victim collapsed and was helpless. He was immediately taken to the nearest hospital for treatment due to his injuries. Mita stated that the victim suffered bruises all over his body and bleeding. The victim received intensive care while in a coma, but ultimately died on Thursday (14/5) at Tarakan Hospital.
