Police Arrest Three Suspects in Deadly Menteng Clash

Jakarta – Police have named three people as suspects in a brawl that killed a young man on Jalan Tambak, Menteng, Central Jakarta. The three are now being held at the Menteng Police Station to undergo legal proceedings.

Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Reynold Hutagalung, stated that the arrested suspects have the initials S, T, and U. “In terms of law enforcement, we have detained three citizens involved in the assault, namely Mr S, Mr T, and Mr U, who are currently secured at Menteng Police Station,” Reynold said on Sunday, 26 July 2026.

In addition to arresting the three suspects, investigators are also examining around 15 people to probe the sequence of the brawl. Some of them are being questioned as witnesses. “For the overall incident, we are conducting intensive security checks on approximately 15 people,” he explained.

Reynold explained that the investigation is being carried out by separating several crime scenes. According to him, the brawl started in the Matraman Dalam area before continuing to Jalan Tambak, where the fatality occurred. Consequently, the police are differentiating the handling of each crime scene, including identifying who is a victim and who is suspected of being a perpetrator.

“So, regarding the incidents in Matraman, Matraman Dalam, and the incident on Jalan Tambak, we are separating them. Which are victims and which are reasonably suspected as perpetrators, they must of course be held accountable for their actions,” he said.

The police chief revealed that the police received a report of the brawl at around 10:00 WIB. When officers headed to the location, stone-throwing had already occurred in Matraman Dalam and then spread to Jalan Tambak. According to Reynold, local residents reacted after feeling their neighbourhood was disturbed. The clash resulted in two people having to be evacuated to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM).

“And it caused residents to spontaneously react because they felt disturbed, so they threw stones, which resulted in two people at this location having to be evacuated by the police to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital,” he stated. The two evacuated victims had the initials K and DS. Police confirmed that the victim with the initial K, aged 23, died after receiving treatment at the hospital.
