Police Arrest Three Perpetrators of CCTV Vandalism During DPR Protests
The Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police (Polda Metro Jaya) have arrested three individuals involved in the destruction of closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitoring facilities belonging to the Jakarta Provincial Government during demonstrations near the DPR/MPR RI complex in Senayan, Jakarta, last Thursday (27/8).
Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, stated that the identification of these perpetrators resulted from further investigations conducted by the Criminal Investigation Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya regarding the damage to the Jakarta Provincial Government’s monitoring infrastructure.
“In the latest development, three more individuals were taken into custody by the Criminal Investigation Directorate starting from last night and this morning,” Budi said during a press conference at the Metro Jaya Regional Police Headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The three suspects are identified by the initials FR, MH, and FM.
Budi explained that the arrest of these three individuals is an extension of the investigation that had previously identified 44 people as suspects in the case of the destruction of the Jakarta government’s CCTV monitoring facilities.
With the addition of these three individuals, investigators are continuing their deep-dive analysis to confirm the specific roles and involvement of each perpetrator in the CCTV destruction incident.
“Based on our findings, the three newly detained individuals played a role in the destruction that occurred in front of the DPR-MPR RI Building,” Budi noted.
However, Budi has not yet detailed the identities or the specific actions of the three individuals, as investigators are still conducting examinations and further inquiries.
Budi assured that updates regarding the progress of the case would be communicated to the public and the media once investigators have obtained more complete information.
“Investigators are currently conducting further investigations; we will certainly continue to provide updates to the media and the public,” Budi added.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Jakarta Provincial Communication, Informatics, and Statistics Office (Diskominfotik), Marulina Dewi, expressed regret over the destruction of several CCTV cameras in the capital during the protests on Thursday (27/8).
“We deeply regret the destruction of several CCTVs, including those in Penjompongan, by irresponsible parties,” Marulina said in Jakarta on Thursday (27/8).
According to her, CCTV facilities are utilised to assist in crime prevention, monitor public services, and support traffic management.
The Jakarta Provincial Government remains open to public aspirations and respects the right of every citizen to express their opinions in public spaces. However, she emphasised that the expression of such aspirations must be conducted in an orderly, safe, and responsible manner.
