Police have arrested three men suspected of jamming Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) in the grounds of Buah Hati Hospital in Pamulang, South Tangerang (Tangsel), Banten.

South Tangerang Police Chief AKBP Boy Jumalolo said the three suspects had targeted three ATM machines at an outlet within the hospital complex.

“There were three perpetrators. They jammed three ATM units. One ATM was damaged, while the other two were jammed,” Boy told reporters on Thursday (30/7).

Boy explained that the method used by the suspects was to wedge parts of the ATM machine so that customers’ transactions would be disrupted.

The method is believed to have been exploited by the suspects to carry out crimes against ATM users.

When they were about to be arrested, the three suspects allegedly attempted to flee. Police then took firm and measured action to stop their escape.

“When they tried to run away, officers took firm and measured action,” he said.

Police are still investigating each suspect’s role, as well as the possibility of their involvement in similar incidents at other locations.

The police plan to present the full chronology of events along with the outcome of the case at a press conference to be held at the Pamulang Sector Police Station.
