Police arrest Tanah Abang resident over tramadol distribution
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police District has arrested a man identified as AR (37) suspected of distributing the controlled drug tramadol in Tanah Abang.
Police Commissioner Reynold E.P. Hutagalung of Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police District stated on Saturday that the case was uncovered following public concern over illegal distribution of controlled drugs.
“The arrest was made on Friday (29 May) at around 11:00 PM WIB near Jatibaru 10 Street, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta,” he said.
According to Reynold, the suspect, AR (37), is a resident of Kebon Melati, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. During the search, officers found at least 500 tramadol tablets believed to be for distribution.
“We acted on community reports regarding controlled drug activities in the Jatibaru area. After investigation, officers secured one suspect along with hundreds of tramadol tablets carried in a black plastic bag,” he added.
Meanwhile, Narcotics Unit Chief AKBP Wisnu Setiyawan Kuncoro noted that the suspect’s urine test came back positive for methamphetamine.
Police are currently conducting intensive interrogations of the suspect and investigating potential involvement of others in the case.
The suspect faces charges under Article 435 in conjunction with Article 436(2) of Law No. 17 of 2023 on Health, as amended by Law No. 1 of 2026 on Penalty Adjustments.
“Urine tests confirmed the presence of methamphetamine in the suspect. We are currently tracing the source of the drugs and expanding the investigation to uncover the distribution network,” he said.
