Police arrest suspected receiver of stolen motorcycles in Pandeglang
The police have apprehended a suspect, identified by the initial J, suspected of acting as a receiver for stolen motorcycles, along with 10 stolen units in Pandeglang Regency, Banten.
AKP Joko Adi Wibowo, Head of Public Relations for the South Jakarta Metro Police, stated that the arrest of J was a result of further investigation into motor vehicle theft cases in South Jakarta. “We are expanding our investigation into perpetrators found carrying firearms, who also turned out to be involved in vehicle theft,” he told reporters in Jakarta on Friday.
Joko explained that the case disclosure began with the arrest of two thieves, identified as F and MS. From their interrogation, police obtained information regarding the location of a motorcycle storage facility in the Pandeglang area.
A joint team from the Mobile Criminal Unit, Motor Vehicle Unit, and Criminal Investigation Unit moved to Pandeglang on Monday (29/6). A day later, officers successfully apprehended the suspected receiver, J.
On Wednesday (1/7), coinciding with the Bhayangkara Day commemorations, officers managed to seize 10 motorcycles suspected to be the proceeds of criminal theft. According to the police, J is suspected of acting as a receiver who accepts and resells stolen motorcycles to generate profit.
Officers are still investigating J’s specific role and the possibility of other evidence or the involvement of other perpetrators within the network. “We will continue to develop the case from there. We cannot rule out the possibility that there is more evidence that can be secured,” said Joko.
Police are also tracing the distribution chain of the stolen vehicles, which were allegedly transported by the perpetrators from Jakarta to Pandeglang to be resold. Currently, all 10 motorcycles have been secured for further investigation, while the suspect, J, remains under intensive interrogation.
