Police arrest suspected motorcycle robber using airsoft gun in Pulogadung

The perpetrator used an airsoft gun kept inside a bag while saying, ‘Hand over your keys and your motorcycle’.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Cakung Police have arrested a man with the initials RI (29) who is suspected of involvement in a motorcycle robbery by threatening the victim with an airsoft gun on Jalan Pulogadung II, Rawa Terate, Cakung, East Jakarta.

“The suspect was secured by three members of the Cakung Police criminal investigation unit. When he was arrested, he was sleeping inside his rented house,” said Cakung Police Chief Kompol Andre Try Putra when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The suspect was arrested on Wednesday (26/8) at around 08.30 WIB at a rented house in the Rawa Badak Selatan area, Koja District, North Jakarta. The suspect has since been detained to undergo further legal proceedings.

The arrest was made several hours after the alleged motorcycle robbery took place on Jalan Pulogadung II on Wednesday at around 01.15 WIB.

“The perpetrator used an airsoft gun kept inside a bag while saying, ‘Hand over your keys and your motorcycle’,” said Andre.

Out of fear, the victim then pulled out the ignition key that was still attached to the motorcycle and ran away to save himself.

The perpetrators are believed to have then taken the motorcycle. The vehicle was moved by being pushed or towed using a motorcycle ridden by the group.

Police are now expediting the preparation of the case file to proceed to the first and second stages in accordance with applicable legal procedures.

In this case, investigators have applied criminal provisions relating to suspected theft with violence and/or extortion, as stated in the police report filed on 26 August 2026.
