Police arrest suspect in robbery and murder case in Bekasi
The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) has arrested a suspect in a robbery and murder case that occurred at Prima Lingkar Asri Housing Complex, Jatibening Village, Pondok Gede District, Bekasi City, on Monday, 2 March.
Deputy Director of Violent Crime at the Metro Jaya Criminal Investigation Directorate AKBP Abdul Rahim confirmed the arrest on Tuesday but was unable to disclose the suspect’s identity at that time.
Meanwhile, the Metro Jaya Police Public Relations Chief Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto requested patience on Tuesday, stating that the investigation was still ongoing.
The victim of the robbery and murder was Ermanto Usman (65), who was previously active in port workers’ organisations, specifically the Indonesian Port Workers Federation under the Indonesian Confederation of Workers.
The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) has declared its readiness to protect the family of the victim. “The LPSK is prepared to provide protection and ensure the fulfilment of rights and assistance to witnesses and victims, as regulated by applicable legislation,” said LPSK Chairman Achmadi on Friday, 6 March.
The victim’s family members, consisting of the eldest child, youngest child who was at the scene, and son-in-law, submitted a protection request to the LPSK on Thursday, 5 March. LPSK Chairman Achmadi directly received the applicants, who were accompanied by their legal representatives, representatives from Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT), and Member of Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives Rieke Diah Pitaloka.
The Mobile Detective Unit (Resmob) and Violent Crime Unit (Jatanras) of the Metro Jaya Criminal Investigation Directorate were deployed to handle the robbery case at Prima Lingkar Asri Housing Complex, Jatibening Village, Pondok Gede District, Bekasi City, on Monday, 2 March. Metro Bekasi City Police, along with the Jatanras and Resmob units of the Metro Jaya Police, are currently conducting an investigation into the case.
