Police arrest suspect in murder of woman found hanging in a Serang garden, Banten

Alhamdulillah, last night the suspected perpetrator of the murder of the woman found hanging has been captured,” said Serang City Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit chief, Kompol Alfano Ramadhan, in Serang, on Friday (22/5/2026). Ramadhan has not yet explained the motive for the murder, including the relationship between the suspect and the victim.

Earlier, a woman was found dead hanging in a garden in Gelam, Cipocok Jaya District, Serang City. The body is believed to have hung for several days at the location and was in a decomposed state.

Cipocok Jaya Police Sector head AKP Juwandi said local residents reported the discovery of the body on Monday (18/5), around 17:00 WIB.

The woman was found hanging from a tree, fully dressed, but her body had turned black.

“On Monday around 17:00 WIB, in the rambutan garden belonging to the late SN located in Pakel Pudak, Gelam Village, Cipocok Jaya District, a woman of unknown identity was found to be dead,” Juwandi said.

Meanwhile, forensic doctor from Bhayangkara Hospital, Dr Donald Rinaldi, presented the autopsy results of the woman found dead hanging in Cipocok Jaya, Serang City. He said the woman did not appear to have died from suicide.

Donald noted there were bruises on the woman who is estimated to have died five days ago. However, the body was still alive when it was hanged.

“So at the time she was hanged she was still alive; yesterday investigators asked whether this pointed to murder. If it’s murder, no, but if hanging or suicide, then not either, because there are many injuries on her body, with many bruises on her right arm,” he said, Wednesday (20/5).

Donald stressed the victim is suspected to have died due to violence rather than suicide.

“If suicide or not, I say not suicide. If yesterday investigators asked whether she could have died due to being assaulted, I said it could be. But when I look at the strangulation around the neck…” he said.
