Police Arrest Suspect in Machete Attack over Parking Lot Dispute in Tanjung Priok
The Criminal Investigation Unit of Tanjung Priok Police has arrested a man with the initials A, the suspect in a machete attack that occurred on Jalan Bugis, Kebon Bawang Urban Village, Tanjung Priok District, North Jakarta. The violent incident took place in front of a coffee shop on Thursday (27/8) at around 2.00 a.m. Western Indonesia Time.
Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Tanjung Priok Police, Adjutant Commissioner Handam Samudro, confirmed that the victim in the incident was a 49-year-old man with the initials AH, a resident of Jalan Swadaya, Kebon Bawang.
“The suspect, identified as A, was found to have attacked the victim, identified as AH, with a machete. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday,” Handam said in Jakarta on Friday (28/8).
Based on preliminary investigations, police revealed that the violent act was triggered by a dispute over the management of a parking area in the vicinity.
“The motive for the assault was a fight over the parking area at Kopi Kenangan, Jalan Bugis, Kebon Bawang,” Handam explained further.
The arrest of the suspect began with a public report received by the Quick Reaction Unit team of the Tanjung Priok Police Criminal Investigation Unit. Following up on the report, officers immediately went to the crime scene to conduct checks.
Upon arriving at the location, police found the victim AH suffering from injuries caused by a sharp weapon to his waist and palm. When the suspect saw the officers arriving, he attempted to flee, but the alertness of officers on the ground thwarted the attempt.
“The suspect and the evidence have been taken to Tanjung Priok Police for further investigation,” Handam stressed.
Meanwhile, the victim AH was rushed to the nearest hospital for medical treatment of his injuries. Police also directed the victim to file an official police report to complete the case file.
