Police arrest suspect in Kampung Melayu park iron fence theft
The Jatinegara Police have arrested a man suspected of involvement in the theft of iron boundary fences from a park under the Kampung Melayu flyover in East Jakarta. The suspect, identified by the initials CAT, aged 30, was apprehended on Tuesday afternoon. The arrest was made after police received and immediately followed up on information regarding a video of the theft circulating on social media. Jatinegara Police personnel conducted a crime scene investigation and inquiries at the Kampung Melayu flyover. The suspect was detained around 1 p.m. local time in the Kampung Melayu Terminal area while eating at a Tegal food stall. The suspect will be charged under Article 477 of the Criminal Code on aggravated theft, which carries a maximum prison sentence of seven years. Residents had complained that the iron fences in the park beneath the flyover had been stolen by a group of thieves over the previous four days.
