Police arrest suspect for sexual violence against a woman with an intellectual disability in Bogor
The Bogor Police’s Satuan Reserse Perlindungan Perempuan dan Anak serta Pemberantasan Perdagangan Orang (PPA dan PPO) have arrested a man identified as A, 25, a daily labourer, for sexually assaulting a woman with an intellectual disability in Citeureup, Bogor Regency, West Java. The arrest followed a series of in-depth investigations after a report was received late last year. The suspect was apprehended on Monday (2/3) afternoon.
Head of the PPA and PPO unit, AK Silfi Adi Putri, said the case emerged from police report LP/B/2439/XII/2024/SPKT/RES BGR/POLDA JABAR. “After receiving the report, we carried out investigations and prosecutions in stages with an emphasis on protection and special assistance for the victim,” Silfi said in Cibinong on Wednesday (4/3).
Chronology of the Incident
The harrowing incident occurred on Saturday, 14 December 2024, at around 01:30 WIB. The location was Kampung Kebon Kopi, Desa Puspanegara, Citeureup. The victim is a 42-year-old woman with an intellectual disability. Ironically, the suspect A is the victim’s neighbour. After gathering sufficient evidence, including the results of the visum et repertum (VER), police moved quickly to secure the perpetrator.
“The suspect has been secured and is currently detained at the Bogor Police Detention House to undergo further legal proceedings,” emphasized Silfi.
Penalties
For his depraved actions, the suspect is charged under Article 473(2)(d) and/or Article 415(a) of Indonesian Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Penal Code (KUHP). The suspect faces a maximum prison term of 12 years. AK Silfi stressed that the Bogor Police will not tolerate violence against vulnerable groups. “We are committed to protecting the victim and ensuring the legal process is conducted professionally to deliver justice for the public,” he said.
