Police arrest several suspects in Central Kalimantan forest and land fires

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has confirmed that the police have arrested several perpetrators of forest and land fires. “We are carrying out inquiries and investigations related to the incidents that occurred. Several names have been secured,” he said in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday. However, he did not disclose in detail the identities of those arrested. Central Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Iwan Kurniawan said that up to now approximately 12 people have been named as suspects. Iwan explained that all forest and land fire incidents in the region are followed up through investigations to determine the causes and the parties responsible. The investigation process has resulted in the naming of suspects in a number of forest and land fire cases. Nevertheless, he has not yet detailed the locations of the incidents or the identities of the suspects named in the cases.
