Police Arrest Pickup Driver Who Rammed DPR Gate During Protest
Police have arrested the driver of a pickup truck who rammed the Pancasila Gate of the DPR/MPR building during a protest on Thursday (27/8).
Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said the driver, who is from Jember, East Java, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
“When he was found, the individual was still under the influence of alcohol,” he said on Saturday (29/8).
The driver’s attempt to force his way through the rear access gate of the DPR resulted in several security personnel being injured.
In addition, officers discovered a sharp weapon inside the pickup truck.
“There was a pickup truck that tried to force its way through, rammed the gate, and injured security personnel handling the demonstration. The individual has been detained, and a sharp weapon was found,” he said.
Budi added that his team is still investigating whether the driver is connected to any mass organisations.
“This is still being investigated,” he said.
Previously, a video of the pickup truck ramming the Pancasila Gate circulated on social media. Several security officers at the scene were seen nearly being hit by the pickup truck. The vehicle was eventually stopped and secured.
