The West Java Regional Police have arrested Taufik Hidayat, the suspect in the confinement and assault of a woman with the initials YTR (29) at the Griya Pesona housing complex in Ciparay, Bandung Regency. West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan stated the arrest was made after investigators uncovered the suspect’s digital footprint through his online transaction activity. “This morning, the person in question carried out several transactions. This became a clue for us. The team assigned to Majalaya remained there, searching around the housing estate area and finally, from afternoon into the evening, managed to locate and arrest him,” Rudi said in Bandung on Tuesday. Rudi explained that after being secured, the suspect was first taken to the Majalaya Police Station before undergoing further examination at the West Java Police Headquarters. He added that authorities are currently conducting a medical examination and a narcotics test on the suspect in accordance with procedure. “We are carrying out a medical examination to ascertain the suspect’s health condition. We also conducted a narcotics test and the result was negative,” he said. Based on preliminary examination results, the suspect has admitted to all his actions against the victim. Investigators are still looking into the motive and the sequence of violent acts committed against YTR. “He admits to everything he did. He also expressed regret and confessed that his actions were carried out under the influence of alcohol consumption,” Rudi said. The case came to light after the victim’s family received a message via WhatsApp from an unknown person informing them that the victim was in the Emergency Department of Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung. As a result of the violent acts allegedly committed by the suspect, the victim sustained a number of severe injuries, including impaired vision leading to blindness in both eyes, a torn lip, difficulty speaking, an inability to walk normally, and the loss of several valuable belongings.
