Police arrest naked couples

JAKARTA (JP): A dozen of uniformed police officers stormed the Tonight Bar, which is allegedly also used as a massage parlor, and arrested four naked couples last week, police said yesterday.

Police also detained a suspected panderer.

Newly-appointed City Police spokesman Bambang Permantoro told reporters yesterday that all of the suspects had been handed over to the crime investigation directorate for further questioning.

According to the head of the operational affairs bureau of the on-the-alert police directorate, Capt. Syaiful Bd., who led the operation, the bar girls arrested in the raid were aged about 17.

"They are among dozens of young girls offered by the bar to customers," he said.

Syaiful said there were dozens of bars and massage parlors in Jakarta which police suspect offer prostitutes and private rooms to their customers.

Syaiful said that the raid was conducted on the basis of a tip-off.(bsr)
