Police Arrest Mother Who Disposed of Baby in Rubbish Bin in Viral Bekasi Incident
North Bekasi Police Station arrested the perpetrator of baby abandonment at Tytyan Kencana Housing Complex in Bekasi, which went viral on social media sometime ago. The perpetrator is the mother of the baby, identified as N (19 years old).
North Bekasi Police Chief AKP Tono Listianto revealed that the arrest of the perpetrator occurred on Sunday evening (8 March 2026). The perpetrator was successfully identified after police conducted investigations and analysed CCTV footage from around the location where the baby was found.
“On 8 March at approximately 23:00 WIB, the operational team from North Bekasi Police Station successfully apprehended the suspected perpetrator, after which the perpetrator was brought to the police station for further examination,” said Tono at North Bekasi Police Station headquarters on Monday (9 March).
From the examination results, it was revealed that N’s motive for abandoning her baby was triggered by fear of her parents finding out, occurring approximately 30 minutes after she gave birth. She admitted that she did not dare to be honest about her pregnancy because she had previously experienced the painful trauma of being evicted from home.
“The motive was because the perpetrator was afraid her parents would find out and was afraid of being scolded, and was also afraid of being evicted from home. Because previously the perpetrator had already been evicted by her parents for frequently coming home late and not coming home,” he explained.
The incident began on Friday (6 March), when N gave birth to her baby alone without medical assistance in her home bathroom. The perpetrator then brought the female baby to be left at one of the rubbish bins in Tytyan Kencana Housing Complex, Bekasi Uttar, with the hope that it would be found by someone else.
“According to the preliminary examination results, she gave birth alone in the bathroom. Immediately after birth she was disposed of there, a gap of only 30 minutes,” he added.
A resident discovered the baby whilst about to feed a cat in front of his house. The baby was found inside a black plastic bag in a severely cyanotic condition.
Police immediately took the baby to hospital. The baby’s condition is confirmed as healthy and is currently receiving care at Bekasi City General Hospital.
“Thank goodness the baby is in good health and is now being cared for at Bekasi City Regional General Hospital. The baby is female and in normal condition,” he said.
Police have seized four pieces of evidence in this case. These items include a house dress and sarong allegedly worn by the perpetrator during the delivery process, as well as a t-shirt and leggings used when abandoning the baby.
As a result of her actions, N is now charged under Article 429 subsection 1 subsidiary Article 430 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Indonesian Criminal Code, with a threat of maximum imprisonment of five years. In addition to N, police have questioned the perpetrator’s boyfriend for information as a witness.
