Police Arrest Man Who Stole Money from Elderly Nasi Uduk Seller in Bekasi
Police have moved swiftly to investigate the theft of Rp 700,000 from Atnah (65), a nasi uduk seller in Bulak Tinggi, Pondok Melati, Bekasi. The suspect has now been apprehended.
“The team successfully secured one suspect, Toto Rusdianto alias Billy, who acted as the sole perpetrator,” said AKP Arief Ryzki Wicaksana, Head of Unit V Resmob at Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya), when contacted on Monday (23/2/2026).
The suspect was arrested on Friday (20/2) at 05:40 local time on Jalan Kramat Utara, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta. Police also seized a number of items as evidence.
“The suspect was subsequently taken to Sub-directorate 3 Tahbang/Resmob of the Criminal Investigation Directorate at Polda Metro Jaya for further investigation,” he said.
The theft occurred on Tuesday (17/2), at approximately 07:30 local time, at the location where Atnah sells her wares on Jalan Bulak Tinggi, Pondok Melati, Bekasi. Atnah said she had no suspicion of the man who stole her money at the time.
“What was taken was my capital and profits. I’ve stopped selling now because I have no capital left,” Atnah said on Friday (20/2).
She recounted the incident to Bekasi Mayor Tri Adhianto, who visited her on Thursday (19/2). Atnah lost Rp 700,000, stolen by a man who pretended to order four portions of nasi uduk.
Atnah immediately set about preparing the four portions as requested. While she was busy fulfilling the order, the suspect took all of her money, which she kept in a biscuit tin.
“I was wrapping the food and didn’t see anything. Suddenly that person just took my money. When I checked, my money was gone,” Atnah said.
Atnah earns her living selling nasi uduk and lontong sayur. Working alone, she begins cooking at 01:00 in the early hours of the morning at her home in RT 04 RW 03, Jatiwarna sub-district.
Once her nasi uduk and lontong are ready for sale at around 05:00, Atnah walks approximately 350 metres to her selling spot, carrying her goods by hand.
