Police Arrest Man Who Snatched a Child's Phone While Filming a Telolet Bus in South Tangerang

Police arrested the phone of a child who was recording a bus in the Ciputat area of South Tangerang. The perpetrator, identified as IH, 54, was arrested on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. The Director of General Criminal Investigation of Metro Jaya Regional Police, Kombes Pol Iman Imanudin, said IH was arrested separately along with five other burglary suspects. The case of pocket picking had previously gone viral after the incident video was posted on the social media account @ciputat24jam on Friday, 15 May 2026. In the video, a man wearing a green online motorcycle taxi helmet is seen stopping at the roadside. The child was facing backwards, holding his phone aimed at the bus that was behind their vehicle. When the suspect’s position was even with the victim, the man allegedly tried to distract the victim by pointing ahead. The suspects are now detained at the Metro Jaya Police detention house. They are charged under Article 477 of the Criminal Code for theft, Article 478 for theft in a closed place, Article 479 for theft with violence, and Article 306 relating to the use of firearms. They face a maximum prison term of 15 years.
