The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Sunda Kelapa Port Police have arrested a labourer with the initials AS (25) for distributing methamphetamine in the Pasar Lama area, Muara Baru, Penjaringan, North Jakarta. The suspect was arrested on Wednesday (8/7) at around 2.30 p.m. Western Indonesia Time along with a number of pieces of evidence. The suspect was apprehended with evidence including one clear plastic packet containing 1.60 grams of methamphetamine, a mobile phone, and Rp350,000 in cash from the sale of the illicit substance. The arrest began when the Sunda Kelapa Port Police Criminal Investigation Unit received information from residents regarding the illegal circulation of methamphetamine in the Muara Baru area. The team subsequently conducted an investigation and surveillance in the Muara Baru area and successfully secured AS, a man who works daily as a labourer at the location. During interrogation, the suspect admitted that the evidence was obtained by purchasing it from an individual known by the initials L in the Gang Elektro area of Muara Baru on Wednesday (8/7) at around 12.00 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. The suspect AS bought the drugs on a pay-after-sale basis for Rp550,000 and, after obtaining the narcotics, distributed them to his fellow labourers who had placed orders at a price of Rp600,000. AS had carried out the buying and selling of the methamphetamine three times. The suspect is charged under Article 114 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics and/or Article 609 paragraph (1) letter a of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.
