Police arrest killer of child

JAMBI, Jambi: The police at the Bungo Tebo regency have
arrested a woman suspected of killing her own two-year old
daughter, which she considered an obstruction to her love affair,
Antara reported.

Local police chief Lt. Col. Dadang Djuhendri said the 25-year-
old suspect, a divorcee identified only as Asn, mixed young
Risnawati's food with poison locally called as cuka getah and fed
the child herself.

Asn had been involved with Mahyudin, 37, for some time and had
to refuse his proposal for marriage because she said her daughter
was still too small. Eventually, the two agreed to get rid of the
child.

Police discovered the crime after local people and health
workers reported a toddler who died on Dec. 25 with telltale
burnmarks in her mouth and abdomen.

Asn and Mahyudin were arrested four days later. (swe)
