Police arrest kidnap suspects
JAKARTA (JP): City police detectives have arrested two men
for allegedly kidnapping a female employee of a private company
and keeping her for four days at a house in Kampung Condong,
Tangerang, an official said yesterday.
Deputy Chief of city police detectives Lt. Col. Bakat Purwanto
said the 32-year-old woman, identified only as FSR, alias Susy,
was fine and was not harmed by her kidnappers.
"Physically she is OK, but she is in shock," Bakat told the
media.
According to Bakat, the two suspects, Husni, 26 and Rusdi, 32,
were captured while trying to withdraw some Rp 25 million from
the woman's bank account on Monday afternoon.
Susy, he said, was kidnapped by the two on Friday afternoon
after shopping at Sogo department store on Jl. M.H. Thamrin in
Central Jakarta.
Her family in South Jakarta reported her missing the next day.
"We kept an eye on some of her ATM cards and her bank accounts
until we were informed on Monday afternoon that someone was
trying to withdraw money from her bank account," Bakat said.
The officer refused to name the bank as requested by the
victim.
"After their arrest, the two led our detectives to their house
in Kampung Condong, where the police later found Susy," Bakat
said.
During the four-day abduction, the kidnappers also took Susy's
gold jewelry and forced her to sign letters authorizing them to
withdraw money from her bank account, he said.
According to Susy, the suspects took Rp 1 million, US$300 and
S$200 from her, Bakat said.
The two are being held at city police headquarters for further
investigation.
"We believe that the motive of this crime was only to rob her
of money and other valuables," Bakat said. (edt)
